The Word of God

The world is rushing on today as if will never end. But people actually die every day! What amazes me is there seems to be no magic age for death. As I looked at the obituary section of the newspaper some time ago, I read about an infant, an adult 32 years old, another 49 years old, and then some in their 70s and 80s who had died. The Hebrew writer said it so well in Heb 9:27, "It is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment."
The most important question we could ask is, "Are you prepared for death and then the judgment?" People in general live their lives like it is all fantasy and there will never be a judgment day. Just as God gave out His judgment many years ago and sent a great flood, He lets us know there is another Judgment Day coming.
The Revelation writer gives us a little insight into that day in Revelation 20:12. He said, "And I saw the dead, small, and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of these things which were written in the books, according to their works." God knows our heart and mind and we won't be hiding anything from God. We won't be able to turn to our friends or buddies and seek sympathy for our mistakes. Instead, we will be begging for God's mercy. In all my years of being a member of God's family, I have never seen more indifference toward God's Word. The world today is trying to be as anti-Christianity and anti-God's Word as possible. Even in the church the Bible is not the most talked about book among God's people. In fact, we have become wrapped up and entangled in the philosophy, "Let s not talk about anything that may be controversial."
Don't we remember the Sunday afternoons growing up when everyone was gathered in the family room discussing and studying God's Word, preparing to go to the heavenly city! Now I hear people preaching sermons on the correct way of studying God's Word. Can you imagine? The Word was not written for the wise, but the simple minded and the humble. If we don t know how to read, meditate, and study God's blessed Word then we are in deeper trouble than I think. I believe the real problem is, we have become so wise and high minded we have forgotten what the Proverb writer said: His ways are much higher and greater than ours. My dear brothers, sisters, and friends, you don t need to be college educated or a Greek scholar to hear one day, "Well done thou good and faithful servant."
We are going to be judged by those things written in the books. How else will we know how to live our lives without reading those books. Each day God gives me life is another day to read His Word, study and meditate upon it and prepare for eternity. Today we have a choice. We can open our Bibles or close them, but remember, we are going to be judged in accordance to what is written.
