Is God Capable?

E-mail Print PDF

In our world, it is obvious that the capability rating of God is not very high. It seems that even if the creature (man) acknowledges His Creator, he still often fails to place confidence in God's power to save. He further falls short in believing that the Heavenly Father's preserving care is a constant for those who will serve Him faithfully. How is it with you and I? If we stand to lose our job or a serious health disorder arises, do we still believe "God is able" or does our faith begin to waver? You perhaps recall the time when the children of Israel, who had just prior left Egypt, doubted the preserving care of God. They were encompassed with mountains on each side, the Red Sea before them and the mighty Egyptian army marching up behind them. They considered the situation and begin to complain to Moses. "Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness?" They declared "it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness" (Exo. 14:11-12). While God's capability rating plunged downward with the people, their leader's faith in the Almighty remained high and he announced emphatically "Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord." Further he said, "The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace" (Exo. 14:13-14). "Fight" He did and Israel lived to witness the unmistaken power of the One who is in control as the Red Sea was opened and all their Egyptian pursuers were destroyed. Their capability rating of God obviously climbed upward after such an extraordinary display of preserving care.
Mankind through the ages has not been unlike the children of Israel. Even yet today man is prone to fail in his belief in God's power to save and His ability to provide what He has promised. However, God is capable of accomplishing whatever He so chooses. We should never doubt His presence or concern for His creation especially for those who trust Him. We should strive to keep our faith in Him strong and prove by our life that He scores the highest capability rating possible in our hearts. "Without faith it is impossible to please him" (Heb. 11:6). As the child must have confidence in the father and the husband and wife have confidence in each other, it is likewise true with God. Humanity must place confidence in their Maker. Where there is distrust you will find discord and misery. God cannot be pleased with any who doubt the truth of His declarations and promises. The requirement of faith or confidence in Him is not arbitrary or open for debate. Therefore, let us from the heart give Him the highest capability rating possible. "He that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
Yes, God deserves the highest accolade possible. How do we know this? "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16) -TLW
