The Battle

E-mail Print PDF

We must fight the battle that is before us at the present time. A man might inform himself about Arianism, Sabellianism and be militant in opposing it. But we are not troubled by these ancient heresies to day! He might be mighty in understanding the hyper-Calvinism of the Primitive Baptists and ready to fight them, one or all, but they are no longer the active enemy we face.
Martin Luther understood this and expressed the idea well: "If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved; and to be steady on all the battlefield besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point."
We fight, not for any joy in conflict, nor as a result of personal ill-will of those who oppose God's truths. We are soldiers because of our undying love for our Savior, his church and the truth of the Bible that must be defended. It is our obligation to bear witness to the truth (John 18:37-38). We have no choice. If you are a Christian, YOU have no choice. No soldier will be saved who turns his/her back in retreat, to the enemies of our Sovereign King.
