Creation Why It Is Believable

Creation is believable because it teaches us that man is not only more than matter but it shows us the benefit of such an exalted position—"made in the image of God." If we are just matter then who is to say what is right or wrong? Further, what possible profit could humanity experience from acknowledging that he has a CREATOR much less admit that CREATOR is concerned about man's happiness and well-being?

As believers, of course we reject any and all evolutionary positions that suggest humanity to be mere matter only. When God created man He aligned him with heaven as none of the other creatures. In Gen. 1:27 we read "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Then Gen. 2:7 records "The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." It was a "labour of love" when God made man to bring glory to His name (Isa. 43:7). His purpose obviously included a mutual and reciprocated love on man's part. Instead of being mere matter, man was made a free moral agent with a mind to make his own choices. A robot cannot love its maker. Mere matter is not subject to show a reciprocating and mutual affection to a Designer. Man however, since he can by his own initiative choose to love God or not love God, is in a position to bestow great honour on the ONE who made all things.

To clearly exhibit one's love for his Maker, he must accept accountability. Without a doubt, evolution has advanced so successfully because it tends to take away the matter of consequence for one's own beliefs and actions. However, accountability came all too soon for Adam and Eve (Gen. 3:6-19). Adam and Eve were accountable. Shortly thereafter, their oldest son, Cain, learned that he too was accountable (Gen. 4:10-12). You see, it matters how we live. It matters how we act and how we treat others (2 Cor. 5:10). Heaven has provided us wonderful building blocks with which to erect our houses. God wants to observe His creation incorporating and acting out the fruits of the Spirit (2 Peter 1:5-8). Such a life will not only bring glory to the name of God but it will bring security and stability to humanity in all life relationships. Satan of course revels in broken lives, thus his promotion of man as mere matter and without accountability to a higher being. "Get behind me, Satan-there's a blessing in knowing that God loves ME and that I can be on the receiving end of 'exceeding great and precious promises' if I will but labour to reciprocate His wonderful favor" (2 Pet. 1:4)!

Related to the above, creation is believable because it shows and teaches the value of human life. Likely the worth of human life has greatly declined in our culture as a result of evolution's doctrine. However, one might only compare the difference in attitudes at an abortion clinic to the prevalent spirit in a maternity ward to appreciate the blessing of a living soul. "How sweet to hold a newborn baby"! Creation shows us the value of a character that manifests holiness. When this is being accomplished in the life of any man, woman, boy or girl it will show the world the "image" of a wonderful and loving Heavenly Parent! Thus we plead even as the Psalmist in Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God."

Suggested Activities: 1. Cut out enough blocks for the fruits of the spirit (2 Pet. 1: 5-7). Label each one and make each a lesson as you talk about these traits with your children. 2. Label more blocks with other godly traits such as honesty, purity, mercy, etc. Show how these traits always bring a blessing. Encourage especially the little ones to use these as building blocks as they play.

Point to Ponder: The making of mighty men and women (those of godly character) requires teaching them that God IS our Creator and that we are ATI. ultimately responsible to Him!

The preceding article concludes the "Creation Series." The material that has been presented is by no means exhaustive but rather just the tip of the iceberg. All of God's creative touch certainly merits the most serious examination. As stated initially, our objective was simply to stimulate thought. The opportunities to lift up our Maker continu-ally present themselves. Especially should we take advantage of these "moldable seasons" in shaping and solidifying the faith of our youth. Now is the time to stabilize the church of tomorrow.

In the gathering of information to present the series, it was evident that the church of our Lord can learn a tremendous lesson from the creation-evolution controversy. You see, often times the leavening effect of false doctrine is downplayed. With the creation-evolution controversy, consider what has happened in the realm of education. Across our republic, in so many places, God has been taken out of the schools. Anti-God themes fill many textbooks. Further, those in control often want to make sure that God or any mention of "intelligent design" is NEVER allowed to be taught in our public schools.

Now— how did that happen? First, you tolerate. Then you condone. Then people will begin to follow the doctrine advanced. The teaching of evolution was first tolerated. The children were taught Some who knew better downplayed the influence of the evolution theory and it began to be condoned. It was tolerated and condoned in many places of higher learning. Boys and girls were raised up being taught the false doctrine of evolution. Some of these youth believed the theory. They then went on to become leaders—professors and administrators who were in positions to make decisions about what can or cannot be taught in our school systems. Along with other voices that cry out against God they have accomplished something that likely our forefathers would have never thought possible...the removal of any vestige of God or the creation account from public school textbooks. They do not want evolution's opposing view (creation) taught or advanced in any form.

Again, how did this happen? First, you tolerate. Then you condone. Then you will have individuals believing the teaching, in this case, the theory of evolution. So notice: false doctrine was tolerated, it was then allowed to have its leavening effect which often takes place where there is an absence of opposition willing to speak up. What is the result? The truth (creation by intelligent design) has been totally silenced in place after place.

In Psalm 11:3 it says, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" We should not forget that light and darkness have no common ground. If we raise our children, teaching them to tolerate and condone error we may live to see them oppose the truth. It is true that light will expose the darkness BUT darkness is EVER seeking to quench the light! Our objective is clear—Heaven! The foundation from which we shall battle is unmistakable-"In the beginning GOD." To Him "be honor and glory for ever and ever" (1 Tim. 1:17). -Tim Watts
